Talk to Me

talk to meWhile I’m on a rant, I need to talk about the messages you’re sending out.

I’ve received the nicest emails from companies, but they were addressed, “Hey, you guys…”. It’s ok if you don’t use my name, but write directly to me. I’m not sitting here with a group of people reading your stuff. It’s just me, so write to me and me only.

Same goes for twitter, facebook, and everywhere else you put out a message. Write directly to one person and make them feel special.

While you’re crafting your email, tweet, or update, think about your ideal customer. Create it just for them. It’ll sound better and you’ll move people to action instead of make them think they’re on a mass mailing list.

Are you guilty of this?

Great post.  The one I especially dislike is “Dear valued customer”.  If I were really valued, you would know my name.  The good news about companies doing the generic message thing is that it opens up the opportunity for the business that really care and value their customers to shine and be remarkable.
