Stop Hitting Red Lights: Finding Green

Without disrespect to other professors, the thing I love most about the Free Agent Academy is the idea filter. Here’s a real copy, with options A, B, and C changed.

filter

Jonathan Pool leads the Idea group within FAA and is downright amazing. Here’s how it works.

Before our students get to Jonathan to work on their idea, they’re also working with Gary on their calling and Deb on their personality style. Jonathan builds on that to help each student personally create their own filter. Students narrow their ideas down to their top three (this is from a list of 40-50 that Deb helps them create) and run them through this filter.

I’m amazed that most people will never, ever, do this in their life. They work somewhere because the pay is good, because they like the city, it’s close to family, or because the people are ok.

They never love their work however because they never took the time to figure out if it was a good fit for them. While we’re focused on self-employment at the Free Agent Academy, I’ve sent several people through these first three classes so they can figure out a better traditional career path. It work exactly the same.

The key in creating your own filter is knowing yourself to set it up correctly in the first place, then sending the right ideas through it. If you have any reds, your idea isn’t going to fit. There’s a poor chance you could even change things to make it work better.

If it’s yellow, you might be able to change some things around to fit you better. Green is best and we’re ideally looking for that color in every section.

We’ve never had anyone not find an idea that was all green. Your idea is out there too, just waiting for you. It’s probably right under your nose in fact. Are you paying attention?

Have you run your ideas through a filter like this? What’s stopping you? Join the Free Agent Academy so we can help.

This is exactly where I’m at, Justin. Thanks for encouraging me to take the time to ge through this.

You bet, Michael. The next step is up to you.

Working through IDEA right now.  Thanks for the encouragement Justin.  There is a lot on introspection that is needed to create a good filter. Depending on which side of the filter you look are on, you will see nothing but junk caught in the filter or the purified goodness that flowed through it.

Justin, I had no idea you wanted to be a fisherman or geologist.  That needs to be on your list of 25 things we don’t know about you.

From personal experience, I agree completely about the importance of the Idea Filter.  The foundation for the Idea Filter is built by Gary Barkalow (Calling) and Deb Ingino (You) to understand the pieces for the mosaic that is the Idea Filter.  Jonathan Pool does a fantastic job of leading people through that process.

Once it is close (it will never be finished, just closer to being more accurate), you will have an amazing tool to apply to business ideas, careers, and other ideas.  When I completed my idea filter, I used it to go through several possible ideas and past jobs.  The idea filter really explained a lot of things in an easy to understand format.  I can’t say enough about it.

Glad to hear it, Eric. I’m following your progress.

No kidding, Alan. Glad this was helpful. You’re living proof.

Apparently this resonated with people, as we got 4 new members in FAA yesterday, 3 who cited “Justin Lukasavige” as what brought them here. Looks like we have a key showcase item for the new FreeAgentAcademy.com website, eh? You rock brother.

It hit a nerve with me, too, Kevin. Wish I had it when I started my biz.

How do I get started?  This appears to be what I need to make my leap back into Free Agency, per Kevin Miller.  I’ve have good ideas but not “GREAT” for “ME”.

Justin, I sent Kevin here from a discussion we were having over at my blog. Kevin – we should talk, a big issue for you is going to be time, as you seem to be fairly maxed out already?

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Yes, if you’re maxed out on time, have a talk with Kevin Miller. That’s going to be a big issue and we’d rather push you away than see you fail after putting in work and money.
