Practice Not Caring [Trail Talk]

I ran into this guy on a motorcycle in Pacific Grove, CA. He needed directions but didn’t care where he ended up. Check out my disbelief in this video.

Now don’t get me wrong; I think you should plan carefully, especially for important things. You should have seen the pleasure in this guy’s eyes, though. It was amazing! He couldn’t care less where he ended up and that was the fun part.

Not caring or planning in business (and most things in life) doesn’t work at least 90% of the time. You’ll end up unhappy with the results and won’t be able to figure out how to change.

You may be there right now.

Is Coach Radio Going Away?

Coach RadioWow, a few hours late and you’re already worried? Don’t fret, Coach Radio is on a one week summer vacation. I’m taking your advice and giving myself this week off to clear my throat and noodle on some new ideas. No shortage of those around here.

In the mean time, as long as you hit it before Thursday, June 23rd at 12pm ET, my friends Karol and Baker have compiled a nifty package at a huge discount. They somehow managed to talk some top authors into pooling over $1,000 worth of books into a $97 package.

I know many of the authors personally and if a few are up your alley I recommend you pick it up. This is an affiliate link and you know by now I don’t randomly promote things. When you start going through it, let me know which book you enjoy most.

How to Make $185,000 in Three Days

If you want to know the story or study how these guys made over $185,000 in their last 72-hour sale check out the interview I did with Karol.

Your Fly is Down and Other Embarrassing Moments

socks“Your fly is down” brings redness to most faces faster than just about any other phrase. “You have spinach in your teeth”, “there’s toilet paper stuck to your shoe” and “I don’t think your socks are the same color” usually tie for second place.

Why do we get so embarrassed? Because it’s not normal.

Going against the grain to make strange things normal can turn into a big business. Just ask littlemissmatched who allows girls to never match a pair of socks again and made quite the profit last year.

What could you challenge?

Dan_Andrews_HeadshotDan Andrews used to work the 9 to 5 and had a two hour commute. He used to load his iPod with podcasts and fill his mind with helpful things. Internet Business Mastery was one of the big ones he used to listen to, and he ended up in a mastermind group around the same time.

Dan was a project manager and assistant to an entrepreneur in San Diego before branching out on his own. His former boss became an investor in his current company. Most people today hate their job and can’t wait to tell their boss to shove it, but Dan explains why this thinking could be all wrong.

More important than making money to Dan, is traveling. He told me he could be making more money than he is, but it’s not what’s driving him.

I recorded this show from the backyard of my in-law’s home so you’ll heard birds, cars and probably other wildlife like kids.

Should you blog and continue to run a business while on vacation? I wrote about it a few days ago and David Powers shared this story:

“Makes me think about a story in Tribes where Godin talked about working on his laptop while in Jamaica. People couldn’t understand why he couldn’t get away from work, but he couldn’t understand why they had work that they had to escape from.”

Do you agree? Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Do You Blog on Vacation?

vacationI’m on vacation and the blog it’s been quieter on the site on purpose. I’ve been blogging faithfully at Need a Topic while I’m out of town (members are paying for it after all), but I’ve slowed my five-days-per-week down to about two or three for a few weeks here at Coach Radio.

We all need some purposeful time off now and then.

Should you blog while on vacation? While I’m taking time off, I’ve not done it different in the past. I would have used the WordPress Editorial Calendar and scheduled posts into the future so I had no blank spots.

Truthfully, I’m not sure why I didn’t do it this time. Sometimes people can get too familiar with you and it becomes easy to ignore your posts.

I’ll be back in force at the end of June, but until then, do you blog on vacation? I’m curious to see what you think.

  • The best frequency for blogging
  • Not giving up after the initial launch

Joshua BeckerJoshua Becker lives in Essex, VT with his wife and two kids. They decided to become rational minimilists in 2008 and eventually created a side business around it. He first launched his website as a personal place to talk about family life as he worked as a full time pastor.

Joshua had a slow start in blogging, doing it just for his family who lived in the midwest while they lived in Vermont. Along the way he had the realization that, if he were going to grow his blog, he should be writing for other people rather than himself. He’s been blogging for three years now, but 97% of his subscribers have come in the past 16 months.

My wife, Christine, joins me for today’s show. If you’ve missed any of the show’s she’s been on, you should know that Christine is a hoot. She doesn’t hold anything back and always tells the truth, even when it gets me in trouble.

We talk about how I talked her into moving across the country and even downsizing into one car along the way.

More importantly, Christine is very truthful about trusting your spouse and if you don’t, you might be considered selfish.

This is a must listen-to show, especially if you’re married or want to sell any idea to your spouse.
