My Move to Wisconsin

Justin and Christine, Madison, WIWhen someone mentions they might move to Wisconsin, people take notice. I talked about a possible move for my family and I on Coach Radio this week and many of you chimed in.

We put a time limit of four days to make a decision. Why only four days for a major decision you ask?

Well, we don’t want to spend the rest of our lives trying to make a decision. By trying to make the perfect decision, we do the only imperfect thing, which is to not take any action at all.   By not deciding, we have decided.  I hope your life isn’t like that.

So, our decision is…no.

Actually, our short-term decision is no.  I think we will end up moving.  Schools are really important to us though, and we’re going back for another visit, this time to get a tour of some of the schools.  That’s going to be later this year however, so for now, we’re sitting tight.

It’s not keeping us up at night because a decision has been made.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.  Keep them coming!

One of the most difficult things about a “final” decision is revisiting it a few weeks later as “new information” comes in.

But it’s probably helpful that schools are an important criteria as that means you’re less likely to be tempted to change your mind a month or so down the road.

I know moving during of a school year is generally thought to be a situation to avoid as it can be extra stress on the kids. (New school, new house, new state, new friends, new church.)

Of course, come March or April of next year, it might be time to start checking out home prices in Wisconsin. :-)

We are looking forward to your next visit.

Thanks for sharing your story out loud Justin…I love it. I was hoping for a good cheese contact…but it’s OK…

As a guy that has many regrets over decisions not to do things that would’ve likely turned out marvelously, I have to say…go for it. I find that these days many of the things in my life that I’m not happy with can be tied directly to decisions I put off or said no to a little too easily.
And also like Kevin I don’t know anyone in Wisconsin and it would be nice to have a contact up there.

Ah, long as you stay online, you’ll always be just a couple clicks away anyhow.

    Great job Coach JL!

It’s still in the running Kevin. I’ll send you cheese next time I’m there.

Thanks for the encouragement Dave. This is exactly why we’re pushing ourselves to do things like this. I’ll have to blog about my chicken idea. Stay tuned for that one.

I agree Mike. We had to put it on the back-burner and not think about it for a while.

Justin, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head about God’s view of these decisions that we think are so monumental. The reason I say that is because I can look back on many of the decisions I’ve made and CLEARLY see that they were not courses of action He was telling me to take. I either didn’t see that at the time or didn’t WANT to…not sure which. But the bottom line is that I made a decision and God took my sometimes misguided moves and used them for my ultimate good and His glory. I sometimes tell people who look at all the things I’ve done in my life that I’ve been successful DESPITE my best attempts to the contrary. That’s because God has taken my decisions, such as they were, and blessed them to produce a happy ending!

Isn’t it awesome how He can take our bad decisions and do great things with them Dale?

    I second that Justin!
