How to Use Libsyn to Host Podcast Files

I host the mp3 file for each episode of Coach Radio at Libsyn. This is a tutorial on how I upload them, as well as the detailed stats the website gives me.

If you’re doing an online show, one of the worst mistakes you can make is hosting the files on your own server.  You don’t have to be that popular for your web host to shut you down when you run out of bandwidth.

Have a question about podcasting? Let’s discuss it in the comments.

Hey Justin, thanks for the advice. I just set up my basic Libsyn account and will get my first podcast published and posted very soon! Many thanks, the video was helpful.

Sweet! Glad to hear it, Jake. It’s very inexpensive for what you get.

I’m not convinced I shoudl switch to libsyn from my own hosting server.  Seems like rubbish . I haven’t run into bandwith issues.  I like the structured organized radio files though!

I don’t work for them and I’m not an affiliate but have known plenty of people who have run into problems with their host. If your host doesn’t have bandwith or storage limits I’d be surprised, but I’d stick with them. Of course the way everyone is going, they eventually will. I hope your show grows to the point where you need dedicated hosting for your files.

Justin, My wife has created some audio files for a graduate school class and her classmates are asking for copies of the files.  I was wondering about doing a podcast so that they could download them plus future ones.  If I wanted to put them on i-tunes would I have to go thru the step of creating the blog page or could i load them to Libsyn and then list them directly on i-tunes.  Thanks for the help and I enjoy your podcast.

Libsyn does offer an RSS feed, Eric, so you can post directly and send that feed (through feedburner) to iTunes.

Hhh..  Thanks mate!  That’s encouraging!  I just started my libsyn account!  I have been using this quasi-blubrry for 63 episodes but never got proper statistics.  Right now I’m in the process of (massive confusion headache) of figuring out if/how I should get podcasts up on libsyn.  And not using blubrry.  I was all keen on libsyn (uploaded 4 of 60 or so) and REALLY liked the ACCURATE statistic (I downloaded an episode and it showed browser and exact location instantaneously.  I don’t trust and couldn’t set up the blubrry powerpress.  What do you think about blubrry?  I like libsyn.  They seem quality.  I have just uploaded all podcasts the shared hosting and used blueberry (in addtion to

and my own href download link.  How do you customize the libsyn audio player?  It seems like I get the embed code of libsyn and then insert into each wordpress post?  Is blubrry better for wordpress?

ALL THOSE questions aside, thanks for the encouragement.  I like the idea of planning for decent listenership (and thus uploading accordingly to podcast-hosting).  I did the 400mb package which will be ideal.  Thanks for the encouragement Justin!

I’m still not certain about using libsyn OR blubrry+someotherhosting.

How did you get your libsyn-hosted-mp3 player to load in that red and blue?  All I have access to on libsyn is the player that shows the podcastcar black and white image.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I use blubrry to attach the proper file as a media enclosure, John. That’s really it at this point. It’s a good service, but that’s all I use it for.
To get your files into Libsyn faster, look into using the ftp. You’ll drop all of them at once and let them upload.

The player isn’t from LIbsyn. I use the audio player plugin on WordPress. I believe it’s included in blubrry but you have few options on where to place it.
