HOW TO: Use Gmail as a Universal Email Client

You probably know I’ll all about productivity. I actually like to call it being efficiently lazy. When gmail made some recent changes I jumped to allow gmail the opportunity to manage all of my email. I can send from any address and access my account from any computer’s browser.

Just a note on the choice between using Gmail's servers and your email provider's SMTP servers: It's not important to *most* people, but the Sender info will contain the original address if you use Gmail's servers to prevent being flagged as spam. Most clients don't display this directly, so it's not an issue. But if you don't want your Gmail address showing up anywhere in your email, it's best to use your email provider's SMTP servers.

This is from Google's Gmail Help site:

Your Gmail address will still be included in your email header's sender field, to help prevent your mail from being marked as spam. Most email clients don't display the sender field, though some versions of Microsoft Outlook may display “From yourusername@gmail.com on behalf of customaddress@mydomain.com.” For this reason, if you don't want 'on behalf of' to appear in any of your messages, we recommend using the SMTP servers of your other email provider.

Great info Kevin, thanks for sharing! I have other addresses set up through
SMTP on my server, but this one wasn't working at the time I did the video,
so I went straight to the gmail server.

Great help Justin. Another step to being more productive.

Great stuff Kevin. I tried this a while back with my gmail and had the “on behalf” problem so I gave up on a universal gmail solution. I think this will work for me now!

Awesome Bobby! Glad to hear you can move to one mail platform now. Makes things so much easier. Let me know if you have any other questions about it. Be glad to help.

Justin, I was trying to view this again, and it shows that the file has been deleted. Is there anyway that I can view it again?
