Making Sense of Social Media

The economy and marketplace has changed drastically over the past five years but many businesses haven’t changed their marketing strategies.  Many business owners find themselves wondering where all of their customers went. The good news is that it’s easier and cheaper than ever to attract your ideal customer online.  The bad news is that you probably don’t have a plan to do it.

The Solution

From Pretender to Presence is a four week online class that will teach you how to establish a presence online, even if you stumble around technology.  Computer use is required but you don’t need to be a tech geek to figure it out.  We’ll help you understand how to do it in as little time as possible. When the class ends you’ll know exactly where to find your ideal client, how to easily create content that you’re excited about, how to connect and build interest, and then how to convert your ideal customer to a paying customer.

There is undeniable power in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to grow your business.  Consumers are using these sites to research their buying decisions but many companies don’t have a presence on these sites, aren’t listening to what’s happening or flat-out don’t know what to do.

Week 1: Stake

StakeThe first step of the S3C class is to stake your claim online. It’s not enough to have only a company website. During our first week we’ll teach you:

  • Where to research your competition
  • How to listen for potential customers
  • How to use social media to build your brand
  • How to offer remarkable content
  • How to grow your influence and use it to increase your business and lower your expenses

When you stake your claim online you’ll discover a large group of target customers; people who are profitable and fun to work with.

Week 2: Create

Create

It’s difficult to become a best-selling writer or Top 40 recording artist by reprinting previous works or playing covers of other musicians. When you have the courage to create original, meaningful, and helpful content, you risk failure…but you also risk incredible success. During our second week we’ll teach you:

  • How to use several free on-line tools to research hundreds of articles a day
  • How to monitor hundreds of users on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn for content and ideas
  • How to find potential clients on social networks

When you create content you become an authority. Google will send you more highly qualified traffic and you can begin building a profitable community.

Week 3: Connect

ConnectA frequent mistake many businesses make is stopping this process after the creation stage. Are you guilty of this? The next step is to connect with and build your community so they’ll keep coming back for more. During our third week we’ll teach you:

  • How often to connect your content with your community
  • How to manage your online presence so you don’t get overwhelmed
  • How to distribute your content using free tools
  • How to create a plan specific to your business with two hours or less per day

Connecting with people lets them know that you’re not a faceless company but, instead, a real person. We like to do business with other people so let’s show your community that you care about them, using as little time as possible.

Week 4: Convert

ConvertYou have an expensive hobby unless you convert people into paying customers. The people who aren’t converting say things like “Facebook is a waste of time.” During our fourth week we’ll teach you:

  • How to convert your ideal client to a paying customer
  • How to create a social media strategy unique to your business
  • How to decrease your marketing expenses

Don’t spend time in any part of your business without a plan. We’ll help you develop a plan to build excitement for what you do and then convert that excitement in to sales.

#sc3 YouTube videos with creative title. I'd use “HOW TO…” in the title because that's what tons of people search for… (all the best, by the way)

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c Great idea Randy. You're right about the title. I did it for the video I put together for tonight's class even. http://vimeo.com/11527026 How to host profitable online classes

#s3c Start a “Do You s3c?” promotional campaign. YouTube, podcast, and Free Agent Underground answers.

  • http://www.bradleycoaching.com/ Deacon Bradley

#s3c This is a little invasive, but what about changing 'stake' to 'claim' to create #C4 – explode your business.

  • http://www.bradleycoaching.com/ Deacon Bradley

#s3c Twitter/FB-page contest: Use 2 of the 4 weekly class titles to tell us why you need the class or the (expected) results of the class on your business. Must include hash-tag and link to signup page to qualify.

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c Figure out the number of people that you would like to attend the class then limit to that number. i.e. we're limiting this class to 50 only.

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c You could do a series of interviews with the authors of the essential book series you are giving away.

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c You could do a You Tube Video of people camping out of a box store waiting for the new “s3c system”

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c I love creative ideas like this @findingforward! If someone put a video like this together they'd be at the top for the free class.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

    #s3c I'm loving the ideas @findingforward!

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c I'd like to say we thought of this but we're not that creative. #c4 is seems to be filled with other topics too.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c I like this idea @1ststepconcepts. Sounds like we could really use this for future classes.

  • http://ViznDay.com Nick

    Justin,

With this 4 week class be available even after you teach it the first time? I don't have money for it now, but would love to attend.

Here's my idea – Well I stole it from Stephen Covey…. I believe it's the essence of what self-employment is all about. Especially for coaches.

Find your voice and help others find theirs. – The 8th Habit. (I know it's way too general, so I have a few more ideas)

    - How to effectively use affiliates to grow your business
    - The most profitable marketing you can do…. Giving
    - How to effectively start a paid membership side of your business (lifetime membership vs. monthly membership, etc.)
    - What people really think of your business (Giving away free stuff to customers when they fill out surveys)
    - Why not to put prices directly on your website

Just a few… Can you tell I really want to win that free 4 week class?!

  • dallonchristensen

#s3c How about asking class attendees or even random people what s3c means to them? Kind of like Jay Leno's old “Person on the Street” interviews. You might get some really funny and interesting responses.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c I'm getting really good video ideas. I think whoever can pull something like this off the best gets the class for free.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c it will be available Nick, but a bit higher priced than you'll see it live. That's because you can bring a friend here for free.

Thanks for sharing the great ideas!

  • andytraub

How to effectively start a paid membership side of your business (lifetime membership vs. monthly membership, etc.) That's a 4 week class of it's own! #s3c

  • andytraub

I'm digging that idea. I've got a tent that fits a 3 year old. want to borrow it for the video? #s3c ideas

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c Well, me in a tent to fit a 3yr old would be funny! I am trying to figure out how to make it happen otherwise.

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c I like that one also Dallon, I think you would need a plant in there who knew what s3c was. He/She would appear random however.

  • http://twitter.com/FindingForward Tony Elam

#s3c Preliminary plans for the video have been formed. I think we can get this done! Now, it's just a matter of how it will turn out :) Andy, I may need that tent! ;)

  • andytraub

You're going to have to fight my son for it #s3c

#s3c promotion idea: create an “Inspired by s3c” badge (website graphic) that attendees are encourage to use on their (new) websites, blogs… The badge will link back to s3c page. This will promote the course and help your SEO as well.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Keep the #s3c ideas coming! I love it Stephen.

  • http://twitter.com/debt_free Chris Rosendahl

#s3c YouTube Video narrated by either Justin, Andy, or both: Have a top ten list similar to Letterman's that asks the question, “The top ten definitions for S3C?” One answer could be the newest droid addition to the Star Wars trilogy! Other answers could have some humor to it but progressively get more serious with hints about what most business owners want/need to achieve with social media. The last answer could be a great one line explanation with a link that points to this course website page.

  • andytraub

OK, I have a new favorite idea now. Thanks Chris!

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

#s3c, I'm all over this idea too Chris. If only I had the time to do this. Andy, you up for hitting the streets?

  • andytraub

Nope. Not enough people on the streets I live on:) Good idea for next
    class though.

  • dallonchristensen

This is long, but the detail is worth it . . .

Mark Jones (from 48Days.net) and I bounced around two ideas for promoting the class. With the class coming up so fast, I don't think we could do a quality job of pulling this off, but I did want to let you know about it.

We would purchase the domain name http://www.doyous3c.com and create a website with video blogs around the idea. We would use my “person on the street idea” for video, and that would allow Andy and you to provide some blog posts. You could then ask some pretty famous people (Gary Vee, for example) write or record posts about what s3c means to them. You could then do some podcast recordings for the various ideas.

Along with this, you would have a Google survey embedded into the site that would collect data on why people want to attend the class. Mark and I would develop a 7-10 question survey with rankings from 1-5 to help collect data on why you're taking the class and what you want to learn about social media. This would provide some hard data about your target market.

  • andytraub

I think I especially like the last point about collecting data from visitors
to the site so they feel like they're being heard.
