Community is More than a Buzz Word

Free Agent Academy Idea Base CampI’m back from a week-long trip to Colorado where I was working with a small group of people who are very passionate about becoming Free Agents.   I was going to be on an airplane during my regular, live podcast, so I decided to record an episode with these guys, late at night around the campfire.

While it was fun to hang out there and record our conversation, something big struck me.  This community thing we talk about all the time is more than just a buzz word; it’s a very powerful tool that has, and will, help many people reach their goals.

It doesn’t matter what the goals are.  You might be trying to lose weight, get out of debt, or become self-employed.  Maybe you’re just trying to be a kinder person to others.

I’ve received comments from listeners who said they were in tears while listening to the fireside chat.  Really? I mean, it was just a conversation that I happened to record.

I Don’t Know What to Do

I understand the power of community; I talk about it all the time.  Until you actually experience the power of it, I think your life is only normal.

During the times I’ve accomplished some of my biggest feats, I’ve always been in community with others.  It may have been climbing a mountain, growing my business, or just hanging out, talking about life.

Maybe it’s the word community.  You say it and people nod their heads, but they don’t seem to get it.  They have to do it.

What are you doing to live in community?  Or are you just going it alone?

Post your ideas here and let’s talk.

As one of those who was a part of that small group in Colorado, I am right there with you on the INCREDIBLE POWER of community. It really isn’t something you can truly describe and do it justice. All we can do is give people a taste. They have to grab hold for themselves. The fact is we all NEED community. We weren’t made to “go it alone”. Man sharpens man as iron sharpens iron. We need each other desperately. What do I do to ensure I live in community? I belong to Free Agent Academy which is powerful for one seeking self employment. I went to this event, which I knew would be powerful, but it completley exceeded my expectations. I also am heavily involved at church. My wife and I seek to have people over to our house regularly, and to know new people, and old friends alike. The thing with community is we have to be intentional about it. We have to seek it to become a part. There are lots of opportunities to be part of many communities. However, unless we chose to become a part, and even step outside of our comfort zone to seek out new people, or the type of community that we need at any given time in our lives, it wont happen. We as humans can be good and isolating ourselves, and then when we need the support the most, it’s not present. Let’s seek each other, and be encouraging to each other. Although we certainly need to be intentional of our own lives, let’s also seek to be intentional in reaching out to others, and coming alongside.

It was a blast hanging out with you Wesley. What an incredible time!

I love your point about being intentional. You’re absolutely right; it won’t happen on its own. But then again, neither does success.
