Anyone Will Talk to You if You Have Licorice

red vinesEric didn’t need to get my attention (we’ve spoken on the phone and traded many emails), but he certainly got it when this four pound tub of Red Vines showed up.

Apparently I’ve talked about this sweet tasting candy a bunch because Ryan sent me a tub about a month ago and I’m still talking about it. Licorice may not be the thing, but if you want to get someone’s attention, find out what they like and send it their way.

Yesterday a client asked me how to avoid becoming annoying when sending prospects letters, gifts, emails, etc. My answer: it’s never annoying if you’re sending what they love.

Whose attention do you want to get?

I think Red Vines are a weakness to most people. Whenever we have it in the office, people storm the desk for it.

Nature’s perfect food? Probably not since it’s not actually grown by nature.

“It’s never annoying if you’re sending what they love.” Awesome. this is SUPER advice for anyone trying to get someone’s attention for an interview, meeting, etc. love it.

Lessons I learned because of this post and NMM show:

    Justin Lukasavige: Redvines, gummies.
    Dan Miller: Peanut M&Ms
Kent Julian: Ethiopian Coffee and Sushi (note: hard to ship sushi USPS)

I think it’s a great idea to start taking notes on whatever people say they enjoy. It not only gets people’s attention, it’s also just plain nice.

Just need to put yourself in their shoes, Alana.

    What do you enjoy, Bryan?

Maybe Red Vines should be your calling card…perhaps you should leave a tub of them here next time you come by.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

That won’t contribute to your goal of losing 10 pounds. I’m a nicer person than that.

Looks like Dan and I enjoy the same treat. Whenever I visit my parents, I head straight for the kitchen and open the jar they have sitting on the counter. A nice, big handful of peanut M&Ms.

-Sushi (please don’t send me any :-P
    -Fried Deer Tenderloins
-Lemon Filled Donuts (Not sounding very healthy am I, though I don’t eat these things often)
    -And coffee.

And apparently I should add Five Guys to the list. We don’t have them up here, but when we were in Georgia we ate there for lunch all 3 days!

Wow, that’s somewhat unexpected, Bryan. I love it!

Well, maybe it’s man’s perfect food?

And while I love the Red Vines, I think someone is trying to enchantment me
by sending me large bags of peanut M&Ms from Costco. A large 3 pound bag showed up at my house the other day.

Just trying to make your day better, Joe. Enjoy. :)

Thanks Justin. It was driving me insane trying to figure out who sent them. My family knows that I love them and I thought maybe one of them had sent it. Then I remembered my other comment here.

They are being enjoyed. In fact, just had a handful a few minutes ago (-:

Glad to hear. I would have included a note, but they didn’t allow it.

Thanks for mentioning me in this post. Since you like gummy worms and bears then you need to check this out. http://www.vat19.com/dvds/worlds-largest-gummy-worm.cfm

Oh my gosh, that thing looks gross.

  • Ryan Brewer

It was the law of reciprocity working itself out.  Since you have poured into me so consistently for a good while now through your conversation, podcasts, products, and other media, my cup had runneth over… and I wanted to show you a token of my appreciation!

And though I’m sure you have stacks of books you want to read, I wouldn’t have sent them if they weren’t worth your time. [smile]

And, if you haven’t already, you need to check out the gummy bear too (lol): http://www.vat19.com/dvds/worlds-largest-gummy-bear.cfm

    Enjoy!

Thanks, Eric. I’ve done the same for many people. I sent out a bag of candy to someone else last week in fact.
