All Bad Days Have Two Things in Common

couch“All the bad days have two things in common: you know the right thing to do, but you let someone talk you out of it.”

I heard this advice from Tom Bihn. Do you think he’s right?

Deep down, I think we all know what needs to be done, but we let those with supposed good intentions talk us out of doing it. Even though we’re wearing a harness and are completely safe, we’re talked off the ledge back to where normal people hang out: on the safety of the couch.

But good things aren’t accomplished from the security of a couch, are they?

Ouch. I can relate. I’ve had a few incidents where I was planning to do something and I let the normal, boring, scared people in my life talk me out of it. Months or years later, I found myself in the same place. If I had followed my gut, chances are high I would be living a different life right now.

Josh and I are just now (over the past 7 months) seeing how listening to those people AND following their advice has affected our lives. We no longer want to be the people who go to mediocre jobs and come home and sit on our mediocre couches. Some of this change will involve doing blatantly the opposite of the advice given.

    Justin,

Often the person who talks us of it is ourselves!

    Wow, that’s the truth.

You’re right, Alana. I’ve found doing the opposite of what I normally would do to be the best thing. Lately, if it scares me, I try to push myself.
