25 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Justin and Amanda1. When I started my business I was an airline captain.  I spent 20 months building Lukas Coaching from hotel rooms.

2. I used to be an ice climber.  I lost a few friends due to ice fall and gave it up around the time I got married.

3. I love the outdoors and spend nearly every Friday afternoon there.

4. I don’t like rules and I constantly pushed them when I was driving airplanes.  Not that I do things the wrong way, I just try to figure out how I can do things different and better.  Why does one person get to say there’s only one way to do things?

5. I have an amazing ability to eat expired food and not die.  It drives my wife, Christine, crazy.

6. I don’t do any work on December 22, June 12, or September 17.  No matter what happens, my three daughter’s birthdays are time I spend 1-on-1 with them.  We usually go hiking and do lunch together.

7. I’m a never-ending fountain of useless facts.

8. At one point, I was the most senior Mid-west employee at PetsMart.  It’s retail so it doesn’t take long to get there, but I spent seven years with the company in various positions throughout high school and college.

9. I’m still a flight instructor, though I haven’t flown an airplane in a few years.  Scary, I know.

10. I play piano and keyboards and routinely play at church.

11. I’ve been known to sing falsetto.  Again, drives Christine crazy.

12. I’ve been to 43 states (and D.C.) but still need to visit: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, and Mississippi. If you live in one of these, can I come visit?

13. Wisconsin has the honors of being my home state.  I’ve also lived in South Dakota, Indiana, and North Carolina; at least I’ve had permanent homes in these states.

14. I love flying, but I’d rather drive.  There’s too much history that you miss otherwise.

15. I owned at least eight cars by the time I turned 22.  I’ve had my current car for over ten years.

16. I don’t like numbered lists.  I’m more of a bullets kind of guy.

17. Christine is the biggest Twilight fan around. As many times as I’ve seen those movies, I still actually like them. Team Edward for sure. (I have no choice).

18. I don’t follow sports. I’d rather be in the woods somewhere getting my own workout.

19. I don’t watch reality TV.  I have my own adventures to make. See #18.

20. I’m with the 90% of drivers who think we’re in the top 10% of best drivers.

21. In 5th and 6th grade I wore an appliance (the dentist actually called it that) similar to a retainer. My top and bottom teeth fit in at the same time and I couldn’t open my mouth. For two years I only took it out to eat. I learned how to talk and still slur my speech. It was called a bionator and wasn’t as cool as the name.

22. I have a lot of ideas, but still have problems executing them. Much like the rest of our culture.

23. Being a father is much harder than running a business. It gives me the confidence to go to work every day.

24. When I lead small groups, my fear is not that no one will sign up, but that only one person will.

25. I bruised my tail bone in a horrific sledding accident as a kid and I cried just putting my socks on. I did get some serious air though.

26. I really don’t like rules. Why does your way have to be the best way? (I also don’t like that I have to keep this list to only 25 things. See #4.)

27. I use keyboard shortcuts many people don’t know exist. Sometimes I feel like the smartest person in the world.

What are your 25 things?  Blog about it and leave a link in the comments.

The only problem I have with this list is #16. No numbered lists? This is a numbered list! :)

Great stuff! I need to make one of these for myself, and make it my blog ‘About Me’ page.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I’m very aware of this, Erik. It was a pain for me to number these. :)

That was a good idea. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks!

Nice list. I can relate to many of these #4, #22, #18, #26, #16…), but gagged when you mentioned Twilight.

I’d love to see what your strengthsfinder top 5 are. :) (I’m expecting Maximizer among them…)

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Thanks, Randy. I hope it made you smile.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

That’s hilarious, Jason! The last time I took the strengths finder, Maximizer actually came up as #1. Well done!

  • tvphoto

Another question, since you’re a keyboardist, why don’t you make your own intro music?
(I love what you use, but just askin)

  • Susan Snyder

Luv it! I can relate to 4, 6,7,20,23,24 and 27! Love me some obscure short-cut keys, We should share lists sometime. Be blessed my friend!

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Thanks for believing in me, but I’m not THAT talented. :) Our show music was produced with a lot of ideas from me with a friend who is an audio engineer. We’ve known each other for years and he brought musicians in to put it together. No way I could do it on that level.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Thanks, Susan. I’m always up for learning more shortcuts!

    Justin,

I have it easy, my list was already posted on my site. It is at the bottom of this page:http://www.thebootstrapcoach.com/meet-me

    How can I help?

  • Roger Benge

Justin, Great list. I don’t live in Alabama but just 10 min across the line in GA. Come on down we make a run for the boarder.

    Roger

    Let’s do it Roger!

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I love the commonalities, Josh. Thanks for sharing!

  • Ryan Brewer

Loved the list. I have a few things in common with you. I seem to know lots of worthless facts also. I used to read them online for hours. Someday my knowledge will help me win the million dollar question. I just know it.

  • http://www.thebootstrapcoach.com/ Josh Bulloc

    I am hookin’ you up

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I don’t even think I’d win anything with mine, Ryan. Too obscure, even for Jeopardy. :)

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I’m loving the idea of getting back on a skateboard. I think I broke a tooth doing it as a kid, though, right down to the nerve. Not fun. Actually, it might have happened riding a bike. That was all before helmets were all the rage.

  • Jeff

Justin, I did it. Here is my link and thanks for the encouragement to get this going!

I like you. You are just as weird as me.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

    You’re just figuring that out?

  • http://www.christopherbrowning.com Christopher Browning

No I’ve known that you are weird. But I’m ready to tell the world I like you, kind of like a crush.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

The feeling is mutual, but I’d prefer to contain our relationship to the
    comments section for now. :)

Great list, Keith! Glad to see we share a love of travel.

  • http://about.me/colinmichael Colin Michael

Maine is lovely in early October. Lots of trails with scenic vistas, especially in Acadia and up Katahdin. The L.L.Bean flagship store complex is an adventure in itself. C’mon up, bring the girls, spend a few days. Be sure to get a client up here first, though. Make it a business trip ;-)

  • Layne Huber

    Haha,  this made me laugh!

Justin, I’m working on my blog and will revisit when it’s ready and I have my 25.  Some of these I knew.  #2 is interesting.  Were you ever with a friend when they fell?

You look like such young guy but you’ve certainly done A LOT of interesting things in life.  Thanks for sharing!!

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

If I can find a way to make it a business trip, I’ll be there in a heart beat, Colin. Hey, find someone that wants me to speak. :)

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Glad I could brighten your day, Layne.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I’m convinced I’ll look 17 years old the rest of my life. I’m fine with it. I’ve fallen quite a few times on the rock and ice. Normally it’s not a big deal. A 400 pound block of ice fell and is what ended up taking out my friend.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcraiggraves Craig Graves

    WOW!  Sorry to hear that!

  • http://www.facebook.com/travisrhaley Travis R Haley

Mississippi awaits you my friend. Just let me know when you are ready.

Entertaining list! I’ll work on my own. Love how often you mention Christine in your blogs. Adds a personal element.

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

Thanks, she’s become a personal part of my life. :)

Hi Justin! Here’s a slight twist on my 25 Things: http://wp.me/p86xM-8Y

  • http://coachradio.tv/ Justin Lukasavige

I love your twist on this, Alana. And sweet pictures!

  • http://bluecapra.com/ Alan Reeves

Great list.  I can relate to many of those.  As for #12, James Woosley, Jeff Jones and I all live in and around Mobile, AL so if you want to cross Alabama off the list, let us know.
