1,000 Posts = Greatness

1000 blog postsI can’t count how many emails I get each month asking me how long it will take for the sender’s blog to catch on. Most have only been at it a few weeks.

Most bloggers never make it to 1,000 posts. I’m only at 639 on Coach Radio so I have 361 to go . There’s no doubt my latest posts are better than when I started two and a half years ago. Two years from now my posts will be better than they are today.

Long term success means putting in your 10,000 hours before you meet with greatness and making it through the dip. You’ll either put the time in or you won’t.

How many blog posts before you hit 1,000?

I’ve got quite a few more to go… About 847 more.

You’re right though. The more you write, the better it gets.

Justin, good reality check.  This country constantly sells instant everything.  The internet can be the worst for this, depending on who’s doing the selling.  Dave Ramsey said it took him 25 yrs. to build his brand.  It’s national, strong, and very lucrative.  He started out selling his cassette tapes/book out of the trunk of his car.  Before that, his business was a card table in his living room.

Focus on quality blogging/podcasting to a small audience.  Post authentically and people will respond.  Those with ears to hear will hear you.  Those with eyes to see will see you.  It’s not your job to save the world.  Just show up & share your gifts with the world.  My responsibility is to deliver the highest quality content I am able to deliver that is accurate, timely, and relevant.  That’s it.  Quality not quantity.

Show up and share your gifts. I like that, Greg. It’s tough to do that for years when you think now one is listening, isn’t it?

I disagree, 1,000 != greatness… but it can.  You have to be willing to do the work, make mistakes, and learn from them.  10,000 hours mean little without focused practice.  Anyone can write 1,000 posts and although it will take them a long (long, long) time, they will not be any better off.

I see your point, Alan. But on the way to 1,000 posts, I see the non-greats dropping like flies. I can’t think of a single story involving 1,000 posts and NOT a great blog. Can you? I’d be interested to see it.

I have 743 to go before hitting 1000.  Just this week I made it my goal to select another blog title in 2013 and start something fresh.  What I am doing now seems to be going in circles.  Yet, maybe I need to stick it out.  I have some time before I decide.

It’s a great start, Keith. Sometimes you never know until you launch and try something. You’ve not lost any money and you’ve also learned a ton, so no sense in hanging on to something that’s not working.

781 left for me. I’ve got a ways to go. It’s been an adventure so far, but the more I talk about my subject the easier it is for me to find new topics to introduce. I’ve got over 30 additional topics in draft sitting on my site now. It just takes persistence.

It the writer is dedicated to what they are doing then I agree, 1,000 posts would be a great blog.  I have seen too many terrible spammy blog posts and articles

565 left!  Almost halfway!  I keep wanting my momentum to be faster… but, I’m also thankful that I didn’t have the audience I want when I first started… otherwise, no one would have come back – our posts have become much better than when we first started.

You might be over the hump now, Eric. :)
