Patrick Garmoe was laid off from his job as a journalist when he came to me. He knew he didn’t want to move from Minnesota.
Patrick now does social media marketing. He helps clients establish a social media presence and helps them monitor their market online.
Patrick’s lesson from coaching with me: “Get out there and do stuff.”
He stumbled into social media without knowing much about it. He took on an internship that was unpaid and learned a lot there. A big break came for him when he had the opportunity to work on project for the city of Duluth, MN that involved Google. The Mayor ended up on CNN, CNBC, and the NY Times as a result of Patrick’s social media work. He used a Flip video camera with no tripod or lighting because he couldn’t find a videographer to do it. His video has had more than 40,000 hits.
“Helping people today may not have an immediate benefit but it may pay off in the long.”
“Just get out there and do stuff. You’ll always learn something [as long as you're open to it].“
Listen to Patrick’s comments in the last five minutes of the show. Do you feel that way about your job or career?
